Wendy Fisher

Wendy grew up in Lake Tahoe and learned to ski at Squaw Valley when she was two. She went to high school at Burke Mountain Academy, a ski academy located in Vermont. Wendy was a member of the US Ski Team (1987-’94), the 1991 US Nationals Overall winner, and a member of the 1992 Olympic Team in Albertville, France. After racing, Wendy went on to have a successful freeskiing and film career, winning many Extreme Freeskiing competitions including the Crested Butte extremes in 2005. She skied in the first women’s XGames skiercross and Gravity Games and traveled the globe filming with Matchstick Productions and Warren Miller. Named one of the “Most influential people of the last 35 years” by Powder Magazine in 2006 & one of the “Best 25 skiers in North America” by Skiing magazine in 2001. Wendy has lived in Mt. Crested Butte, CO for the past 15 years, with her husband, Woody and has two sons, Aksel and Devin. She served as a member of the Mt. Crested Butte Town Council and is currently Crested Butte Mountain Resort’s Ambassador.

Nick Herrin

Nick is the Director of the Crested Butte Mountain Ski and Ride School as well as the Director of CBMR Resort Services which includes the Ski and Ride School, Skier Services (Tickets & Season Passes), Mountain Adventure Park, Guest Services, Parking, Rental/Retail and the Mountain Sports Team. Nick found his way to the ski industry through Ski Instruction, having the opportunity to teach skiing during his high school years at a resort outside of Seattle, WA. From there his interest grew in the sport, spurring his move to Montana. While attending Montana State University, Nick began working for the Ski and Ride School at Big Sky Resort. This opportunity led to a 10 year career as a ski instructor and training instructor. During his final 3 years at Big Sky, Nick worked in the Marketing Department to fill the off season months as a Regional Group Sales Manager. Nick continued his work as an instructor and trainer becoming the Assistant Director of the Telluride Ski Resort, Ski and Ride School and for the past 8 years, he has also served 2 terms on the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) National Alpine Team. Leading the PSIA organization in their contemporary skiing, teaching and curriculum models.

Originally from Maine, Jill grew up ski racing all over New England and eventually attended the University of New Hampshire where she raced in four NCAA Div. 1 National Skiing Championships and graduated with a teaching certificate in Physical Education and Outdoor Education. After college Jill became a ski coach at the Green Mountain Valley School in Vermont and the Carrabassett Valley Academy in Maine. She moved to Crested Butte with her husband Ross in 1993, where her passion for skiing and teaching has only grown. Jill competed on the Extreme Skiing circuit for six years, and is a four time US Extreme Skiing Champion, along with podium finishes at the World Extremes in Valdez, Alaska. As a 16 year veteran of the Crested Butte Resort Ski & Ride School, an alumna of the elite PSIA National Team, and co-founder of International Mountain Adventures, Inc (IMA), Jill now enjoys training other ski instructors and teaching skiing in the U.S. and overseas. Jill is also a Realtor with Benson Sotheby’s International Realty, and volunteers for the Crested Butte Mountain Bike Association. In her spare time, she enjoys exploring the outdoors with her two young boys.

John Cowell

John Cowell

John Cowell has been an on again-off again resident of Crested Butte since the mid-70′s.  He is a former professional level road cyclist and has been involved in the performance training of elite athletes for over 15 years including a stint as the lead strength and conditioning coach for the New Zealand National Cycling team.  He is currently a PhD candidate in Exercise Science and serves as the President of Slick Enterprises as well as the co-Director of Grants at the Slick Family Foundation.

Tom Stumpf

Tom Stumpf

Tom was born in Buffalo, New York.  He graduated from Allegheny College in 1970 with a B.A. in History and then in 1973 with J.D. degree from the University of Tennessee.  In 1974 Tom was a clerk for the Delaware Supreme Court.  He then started his own private law practice in southern Delaware where he retired in 2008.  He has had a home in Crested Butte since 1999 as well as in Charlottesville, Va which he enjoys with his wife, Nancy Union, M.D. and his two sons Eric and Jonathan.  Tom’s current interests are skiing, fishing, biking, reading and volunteer work.
